Discussing the Teenage Brain
empowering wise decision-making
This presentation uses a series of whiteboard illustrations to give students an understanding of exactly how their brain changes during puberty, and in turn, how that impacts every day decision making. Full of both online and real life examples from young people their own age, this presentation will empower students to be kind to themselves, look after their bodies, ask for help and build their own ‘committee of management’ to support them.
This presentation includes:
• Types of decisions teenagers are faced with
• Three levels of the brain (survival, limbic system and executive functioning) and how they interact with each other
• Changes in the brain during puberty and how this impacts decision making
• How to utilise your real life “committee of management”
Duration: 50-minute session plus Q and A time
Recommended audience: Middle school
