WHAT IS THIS WEBINAR ABOUT?

As parents, we know we need to keep talking. The hard part is knowing what to say, and how to say it as our kids grow and the stakes get higher.

As our children become teenagers, keeping them safe starts to look very different. We have less control over where they go, who they are with and the situations they encounter. Parties, alcohol, dating, online contact, sexual pressure and increasing independence make safety conversations more urgent, and much more complicated.

This webinar tackles some of the most important, high-stakes safety conversations parents of tweens and teens need to have – including how to recognise grooming and genuine red flags.

Michelle will be joined by Kristi McVee who has spent almost a decade in policing, including working as a specialist child interviewer and detective investigating child sexual abuse. Today she helps parents and educators recognise red flags, understand grooming behaviours and have age-appropriate safety conversations with children and young people.

Together, they bring decades of experience with young people and families to help you feel more prepared and help your kids become more equipped, without creating unnecessary fear.

You’ll walk away understanding:

  • what grooming can actually look like, online and offline, and the red flags tweens and teenagers and parents need to recognise
  • consent basics – the key skills you can build everyday in your home, before the stakes get high
  • bringing consent into their world – especially when attraction, pressure, popularity, power or alcohol are involved
  • being the person they trust —  what makes it easier for them to come to you when something unsafe or uncomfortable has happened
  • the online dangers kids and teens are facingincluding sextortion, sexual predators, grooming and image-based abuse and the conversations parents need to be having before something happens
  • what they need to know before parties or sleepovers — including recognising when safety is sliding, looking out for friends and knowing when to get help
  • how safety conversations need to change as children grow — we can prepare teenagers for greater independence without trying to control every decision they make

WHO IS THIS WEBINAR FOR?

Parents of tweens and teens who want to be more prepared and help equip kids without creating unnecessary fear.

It is designed for private home use. If you are a school wanting to watch this webinar within a school context or as a professional development experience, please contact our team at shop@michellemitchell.org. We offer very affordable prices for community organisations.

When our children are little, we could hold their hands, supervise their play and decide who they spend time with. Eventually, our kids walk into rooms without us. They go to parties without us. They develop relationships without us. They make decisions in moments when the stakes are high. That's what we are preparing them for.

Already dealing with something concerning? If your tween or teen is currently experiencing an unsafe situation we want to offer you support in what I know is a difficult and complex time. This webinar is for you too.

We can't be beside our children every minute of every day. But we can give them language for unsafe behaviour. We can teach them that boundaries and consent matters. Most importantly, we can work on becoming adults they know they can come back to.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE WEBINAR?

Once you complete your purchase, you will automatically receive an email containing a link to access the webinar. If you don’t receive this email, check your junk folder.  If you are still having trouble, we are always here to help at shop@michellemitchell.org

You will have access for 6 months from the date of purchase, which means you can watch it as many times as you like in that access period.
