Cost: $25.00 AUD
Access: It is yours to watch and view as many times as you want for 6 months from the date of purchase.

WHAT IS THIS WEBINAR ABOUT?

We didn’t grow up with a lot of sexual health education. That means most of us don’t have memories of deep conversations with adults about this topic when we were tweens. In today’s world we can’t leave them uninformed, or risk them being educated by technology or peers. The  research is now clear that the early and more often we communicate, the better. “How” we educate is so important. Put ourselves in their shoes…. it could be daunting, exciting, interesting, terrifying???

One thing I do know is that our tweens are still concretely thinking and are unable to abstractly consider issues. That makes the topic of sex a bit tricky. The vast majority of them have no reference point for sex, nor should they. We need to lead them clearly, wrapping values around the entire topic to give it safety and meaning.

This webinar will give you lots of common sense, age appropriate and soft language to use in your home. I will guide you through my book Where Babies Come From, and give you the reasons ‘why’ I approached different sections the way I did. We will cover

  • When and why to start the conversation with a curious or reluctant tween? I will give you range of options you can choose from to help you get started.
  • How do I best use resources. Parents often ask me, Do I read it with them, or just give it to them? I’ll let you know what research says about this, and why I have called used the term “book boss-ery” in section 1 of the book.
  • How to cater to my child’s individual needs, and neuro type? There are some specific things you need to consider in your communication.
  • I will give you some quick responses to tricky questions, and make sure you know how to answer if you don’t have the answer! You will be a pro at constructing the “I’m not surprised” face.
  • I want to give you the language I use to explain some of the trickier stuff – sexual feelings, why adults have sex, whether kids can have sex, whether babies can die in the womb, what adoption is, what pornography is, why kids are born with disabilities, the difference between sex and gender. Kids go there and so will we – age appropriately with their young minds and hearts at the centre of our communication.

You are doing an amazing job just showing up for your child in this space. This conversation is not about perfect. It’s about you and your child growing together.

Please don’t forget our motto – growing up was meant to be fun!  Most importantly I want LOTS of giggles in your home!
